Apple turnover

I made an apple turnover, which turned out absolutely delicious. It’s also very simple to make.

  • Apples – about 500 g (for a baking tray of 22 cm in diameter)
  • Eggs – 4 (quite large)
  • Sugar – 160 g
  • Flour – 160 g
  • Salt – approx. 1/4 tsp
  • Melted butter – 1 tbsp
Method is explained and illustrated below. Enjoy!
Prepare the apples. Chop them into quarters, and then slice each quarter up.

Place eggs into a whisking bowl…

… add sugar…

… and salt…

… and whisk until light and fluffy.

Sift the flower into the mixture, gradually, in 3 or 4 portions. You can also pre-heat your oven to 180C at this stage.

Mix together with a spatula, slowly and carefully. The best way to mix is in circular motions, in one direction, lifting your mixture from the bottom, and shaking the spatula a bit at the end of each motion, to spread the flour as much as possible.
Once one portion of flour is fully mixed in, add another, until you’ve mixed all the four in.

When all the flour is mixed in, add the melted butter into the mixture. Pour the butter at the edge of the bowl, not in the middle.

Mix the butter in, lifting the mix from the bottom, making sure the last streaks of flour are well mixed in.

Grease the bottom of your baking tray…

… and pour half of the batter into it.

Place half of your sliced apples onto the batter, forming any pattern you want.

Pour the rest of the batter on top of the apples…

… and place the rest of the apples on top of it.
Bake at 180C for 25 to 35 minutes.

Once the pie is ready, take it out of the oven and leave for about 5 to 10 minutes to cool down a bit.

Using a sharp knife, carefully cut the pie out of the tray…

… you can also dust the pie with ground cinnamon…

… and enjoy!
