Ukrainian fried dumplings with meat

I made fried dumplings with mince (Ukrainian bilyashi), which turned out absolutely delicious, and were very easy to make 🙂

For the dough:
  • Flour – 270 g (and a little more for working with the dough)
  • Warm water – 200 g
  • Fast action dried yeast – 1 tsp
  • Sugar – 2 tsp
  • Salt – 0.5 tsp
  • Vegetable oil – 1 tbsp
For the filling:
  • Mince meat – 250 g
  • Onion – 1, middle size
Method is explained step-by-step and illustrated below. Enjoy!
Sift the flour into the bowl.
Take the fast action dried yeast…
… and add a teaspoon of it into the flour.
Add sugar…
… and salt…
… and mix all the dry ingredients together.
Add the oil…
… and warm water.
I used a mixer with special hooks for making the dough.
I mixed the dough for about 5 to 7 mins on low speed.
The dough should turn our soft and a bit sticky to the hands. Place it into the bowl dusted with some four, and put into a warm draft-free place for 40 minutes to an hour. (I warmed up my oven at about 50 C, then switched it off and placed the bowl into it).
While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. Chop or grate the onion (I prefer grated), and mix it with the mince.
Once your dough has risen…
… place it onto a wooden board, dust the board with some flour, and cut the dough into 8 equal parts.
Roll each part flat…
… place some filling onto it…
… make a small sack…
… and flatten it with your hand.
Heat up the vegetable oil in the frying pan. Fry the dumplings at the middle heat, for 3 minutes on one side…
… then turn them over…
… and fry for another 3 minutes. If need be, turn over again and fry for another minute on each side.
Once the dumplings are ready, take them off the heat…
… they look scrumptious and fluffy 🙂
They are ready now…
And they are absolutely delicious!
